Proctor Silex 31117 4-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler, Black On Sale.

Our Toaster Oven from 10 years ago finally gave out recently. It began to have a mind of its own and turned on by itself. Thankfully we were at home at the time. After connecting with many memories and remembering that my mom had given it to us as a holiday gift- I kissed it goodbye.
The search began to find a new machine that would warm up leftovers, toast my morning muffin nicely and wasn’t too expensive.
I looked in the local stores for a replacement and then discovered that the first 3 I had selected had terrible reviews. Some created fires others turned on by themselves. My husband and I then discovered a nice one but the electic cord was extremely short and did not reach the outlet. Our search continued. Each toaster oven had two subway rides since we do not use our car much in Manhattan!
I searched longer on line and discovered this one. It had very good reviews. I even called Procter Silex Company to find out how long the cord was. It seemed like a match and it was half the price of some of the others that I had recently purchased. Since it was not available locally- I ordered it through Amazon and it came clear across the country in about a week.
I read the instruction book carefully. It actually says to UN PLUG the Toaster Oven when not in use. After hearing about the other Toaster Ovens that had minds of their own- I now un plug this after I use it. Something that over my 30 years of using an applience I have never done before. Better safe than sorry.
The machine toasts fairly well. It warms well- heats fast and has a slide out crumb tray. The time dial does tick but I am not concerned about it. I am glad to have found this one and glad that there were only minimal red flags in some reviews. I recommend it.

I think it would have been best if I had seen what exactly I was getting. The rack does not come out when the door is opened which is not very good when toasting bread or rolls. Putting a hand into a hot toaster oven is not a good idea.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago after a really dangerous Black and Decker Toaster Oven I had was catching fire when we tried to make toast. I bought this due to the good reviews it had and so far we are very pleased with it. Design is nice, it’s really roomy inside if you want to put larger things in it for re-heating or cooking. Easily fits 4 pieces of toast. The only beef I have with the design is the handle. When you open it to remove your toast/other item, the design is such that you are almost forced to touch the (hot) glass to return it to the closed position – because there is no “insulated” piece of hardware resting against the glass where you would push it shut. For that reason, I give it 4 stars instead of 5. A word of warning – it heats up VERY fast, which is great if you’re in a hurry. Make sure to read instructions on toast setting – turning it past a certain point, then bringing it back to desired toast setting. It’s also easy to clean out toast crumbs as there is lots of room under the element to wipe with a cloth – plus a removeable crumb tray.

Aroma ABT-208S 4-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster Oven On Sale.

Toasts evenly, and quickly enough, but it will not broil as pictured: There is no bracket for sliding the broiling pan under the chrome rack as in the picture.
You must either broil directly on the pan, without any drainage of fats — maybe that’s ok, I’m just not used to it — or provide your own rack from somewhere. Customer service wasn’t able to dig one up.
Timer is very accurate. The brushed stainless steel is much brighter and better looking that in the picture too.
For my needs it’s the best toaster-oven I’ve owned in many many years. I hope it holds up.

Hard to use, missing features, generally unimpressive – Ian Crew – California, USA
Got this as a gift for Christmas, and my wife and I are about to go dig our 10-year old Krups one out of the garage. About the only thing this one has going for it is that it looks fairly nice. The things about our Krups that we really miss on this one:

* On the Krups, you set one dial for how dark you want the toast, and push down a lever to tell it to start toasting. On this one, you have to set the oven temp to “Toast” then use the timer dial to make it go. This means that you have to remember/guess where on the dial results in the kind of toast you like.

* On the Krups, you could easily tell where the temperature was set. On this one, it’s almost impossible to tell one end of the temperature dial form the other (it’s pure black on black), so you often end up getting 150 degrees when you wanted 450, or vice versa. Because of this problem, you also often get 200 degrees when you want “toast”, which means you end up with warm bread instead of toast. Very frustrating early in the morning.

* On the Krups, when you opened the door, two hooks automatically pulled the oven rack out an inch or two, meaning you didn’t have to reach as far into a hot oven to retrieve your food/toast.

So, while it’s not a HORRIBLE toaster, but it’s pretty bad, and I’m busy looking for a good 4-slice toaster oven that’s stainless steel (or similar) on the outside that includes the features I mentioned above. Suggestions, anyone?

When the size of the unit was given in the web ad, they must be giving the package size. the overall size isn,t close to stated. Crumb tray is a joke not removeable. Wear an oveglove when using so you can hold unit and try to adjust so called control knobs. Spend a few more bucks and get another brand !!!

This toaster looks nice and works well as an oven but as a toaster it is VERY slow. We replaced a cheap black and Decker we had for 15 years and the whole family complains about how slow it toasts. It takes 5 minutes to get light toast. We just timed it so this is not an exaggeration.

Dualit 4-Slice Toaster, Chrome On Sale.

We purchased this toaster from the UK for our Florida holiday home. The transaction went extremely smoothly.

You generally get what you pay for and although you can buy most toasters a lot cheaper, in this case you do get value for the dollar you spend. We have had this same toaster used regularly at our home in the UK for many years. I would 100%+ recommend it to you if you are prepared to pay for a quality product. It is very robust, professional kitchen quality in my opinion and extremely easy to use. It’s reliability should be assured if our experience is anything to go by.

It has 2 or 4 slice red rocker switch to the top right front side beneath which you will find the timer switch which turns clockwise. At the centre of the bottom of the front side you will find a black ball shaped lever which raises and lowers whatever you place inside. Beneath this is a pull out metal tray which collects crumbs and is replaced with ease. It is ideal for sliced bread or hand cut bread but is not ideal for crumpets.

If you try to toast one piece or three pieces you will find that a surface next to the empty slice holder(s) will brown very quickly and burn if your not careful. It is better to stick to 2 or 4 slices only!

Burnt Toast From the Get-Go – Portland Pear – Portland, OR
Thought I would invest in a high quality toaster to replace my Sunbeam. This thing burned the first, second, third, fourth(you get the idea)piece of toast I put in it. I returned it. Luckily I hadn’t put my Sunbeam out on the sidewalk with a “free” sign yet. I would not recommend buying this toaster.

BEWARE. Dualit has been bought out and the quality of this unit is DEPLORABLE. Their customer service is even worse; my 0 toaster was, well, toast in a matter of weeks. Dualit totally blew me off and Amazon stiffed me, as well. They took back the bum toaster, ignored me altogether for a while and then gave me an insulting credit (and kept the toaster). Check out the web for more comments from people who had the same experience of being shafted by BOTH Dualit AND Amazon.

I have had my Dualit 4-slice toaster in chrome for about six years and have had no problems with it. It toasts wonderfully, looks beautiful and seems to be built to last. We also have two of the sandwich cages which make great grilled cheese sandwiches or other grilled sandwiches that aren’t too thick. They work best with the thinner bread slices though as with the thicker it takes longer for the cheese to get melted, which can be too much time on the bread causing it to burn. It is a pricey investment for toast, I agree, but if you have the money and want a statement piece on your counter, then this will meet your needs.

I hate this toaster. Want my old one back!! – Doc Wingo – Santa Clara, CA US
My husband got this Oster 6334 for me for Christmas 2007, as I was tired of doing batches of toast for the 4 of us with our old 2 slice model. I wish he had done some research, as this is not a cheap toaster. We sent men to the moon before I was born; haven’t we perfected toasters yet?!!
Problems-
This 4 slice-toaster takes forever to toast bread (white or wheat), and when it’s FINALLY done, the bread is toasted UNEVENLY. One side is way darker than the other. I have experimented by adjusting the temperature setting (I usually set it around 5; the max is 7) to no avail. I am not going to flip the bread halfway through toasting!

Bonus- the crumb tray is effective at catching crumbs and is easy to clean.

Sorry, Honey, I’m going to look for a replacement.

This little toaster/oven is wonderful. I needed a small appliance for a small area to work “Big”. It does everything I need it to do from just toasting bread to heating frozen convenience foods. If you’re not competing on ‘IRON CHEF’, then this little oven is what the DR. ordered! It also does pretty good stuff with frozen pizzas as well (The single serving size, of course)( and frozen biscuits too!). I am one single person in a small home, but this little oven does anything I need my ‘full sized’ oven to do(Not counting turkeys or large casseroles!), but at a much smaller space and cost! Well worth every dime!

For the price I paid – 20 dollars, it is a winner. It could toast more evenly, and they ought to eliminate the “always on” button – but aside from the hazard of the possibility of burning the house done, this thing gets the job done. Whether it warms up a slice of pizza or makes the cheese in a stuffed date ooze with joy, it is reliable. If you can though, don’t get this in white. It will be streaky and weird after many uses.

I have had this product about 1 month and I am throwing it out and trying a different brand. The product is poorly constructed — door does not open and close smoothly. Exterior paint has chips and discolorations. The design of the controls is terrible.
